BLW has a lot of benefits over the conventional or traditional way of weaning. I will be discussing some of them here. I a also released a longer video with more about BLW previously. Please also watch that one if you are interested.
1. Better satiety and hunger cues
They know when to stop eating and have better hunger cues. This also leads to making better overall choices.
2. Autonomy; Choices
It gives the toddler some autonomy and a feeling of accomplishment to perform something by themselves. This can lead to better choices later in life and a better sense of responsibility.
3. Less fussy and picky
Accepts a bigger variety of food, less likely to be picky and more adventurous eaters.
4. Better development
Motor skill development is increased, hand-eye coordination is practiced and their fine motor skills developed. Their oral health will also be improved as well as their oral muscle development.
5. Less likely to be obese
Since they control their own food intake, there is less of a risk of overeating and therefore obesity. There is also a higher fruit and vegetable intake which leads to better weight management and health in general.
Bonus – Lower maternal anxiety, improved social bond, more nutritional knowledge, better sensory development, acceptance, better GIT health and a feeling of accomplishment and power.
