I’ll be honest, I did not expect to see a #comingtoamerica2 at all! I really thought #EddieMurphy was living his retirement days out with the odd thing he might feel like doing and his ten children and his child support payments, but here we are looking at the trailer.
And the problem is, we know sequels quite often destroy the thing we loved that came before it. Let us all pray to our non-existent deities that it will be a worthy follow up. Nostalgia is not enough, and neither is cramming in A-listers – the writing has to be good. And we all know what happens in sequels normally (I’m talking to you, all recent Star Wars films).
I’m factoring in that this is probably a passion project as good ol’ Ed has looked after his money by the looks of things, so he’s doing it for the love of it. So come March 5th let’s see just what the legacy of #comingtoAmerica has become. A successful older brother who went on to become a lawyer hating his life but being perceived as a success? Or the failure of an Uncle who his nephews and nieces came to hate due to his eternal greed for money.
Oh, and here’s the fantastic Louis sketch I mention: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8PXvqYpGCM&ab_channel=SaturdayNightLive
