Chameleon
Chameleons live in warm varied habitats from rainforests through to deserts.
Currently, there are more than 200 different chameleon species
Almost half of the world’s chameleon species are native to Madagascar, Africa.
Species of chameleon can be as small as half inch or as large as 27 inches.
Until today, a lot of people think chameleons change their colour based on their surroundings – sort of like camouflage. However, this is not always the main reason.
Chameleons actually change their colour due to a number of different factors, including their mood, when angry, or when trying to scare others, changes in light or temperature, or the humidity of their environment.
There SKIN CRYSTALS ENABLE THEM TO CHANGE COLOR AT WILL.
Chameleons have amazing eyes. The bulging upper and lower eyelids are joined and the pupil peaks out from a pinhole sized gap.
They can move their eyes separately, can rotate and focus separately on 180-degree, so they can see two different objects at the same time. This gives them a full 360-degree field of vision. This is useful because it means they can see predators coming from behind them, giving them a chance to scarper if they’re about to get caught.
Eyesight is great they can see small insects 5-10 meters away. They can also see in both visible and ultraviolet light, which isn’t visible to humans.
Chameleons feed by ballistically projecting their tongues often over twice the length of their body to catch prey, forming a suction cup as it hits its target in split seconds.
Here are the famous chameleon species.
And lastly the Animated 2011 Movie, Rango is a Chameleon.
According to International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species, many species of chameleon are endangered. Some species that are considered in danger of extinction
